UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University Athletics Department held its fourth Community Youth Day (CYD) Clinic on Saturday, Feb. 6. The event was a softball and baseball clinic, and was part of SVSU's series of five CYD Clinics for the 2009-10 school year.
SVSU’s softball & baseball teams conducted a free clinic for kids. Of the 145 participants, 100 received a free bicycle helmet and custom fitting, courtesy of St. Mary’s of Michigan and Paramount Rehabilitation. At half-time, the Athletics Department announced the clinic participants who were the lucky winners of “2” brand-new bicycles and a family package of ski/snowboarding helmets, a contribution by Graff Chevrolet. The winner of the boy's bicycle was Cody Metiva and the girl's bike was won by Jill Jarvis. Jayna Scherzer was the lucky participant who walked-away with the family package of ski/snowboarding helmets.
Following the clinic, the participants were able to take-in the women's and men's basketball action against rival Northwood University.
SVSU will hold its last Community Youth Day on Feb. 20, which will feature a free footbal land volleyball clinic. The Just for Kids Foundation, in association with Maier & Associates, will be giving away a $250 college scholarship to one lucky Community Youth Day participant.
