CLEVELAND, Ohio – Saginaw Valley State University Athletics is currently ranked 19th in the first winter Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings released today (Mar. 14) by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
Saginaw Valley has 154.50 points to date this year. The Cardinal
men's soccer team accounted for 90 points with their runner-up
finish in the men's tournament, while the women's cross country
team, which finished 12th at the national championships this
season, secured 64.5 points.
Colorado School of Mines jumped into the lead in the final fall
edition with 333.5 points, while fellow Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference member Grand Valley is second with 280.0
points.
The rankings include national finishes in women's cross country,
men's cross country, women's field hockey, women's soccer and men's
soccer, volleyball and football.
SVSU's 19th place standing is the University's highest ranking to
finish a season in the Learfield Sports Director's Cup Standings
and marks just the second time that SVSU has been ranked inside the
top-25. The Cardinals ranked 24th in the fall of 2009.
Saginaw Valley also finished 96th overall in the final Learfield
Sports Directors' Cup Standings in 2011.
