Cardinal Baseball Signs Four to Letters of Intent

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University baseball program has signed four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, as announced by head coach Walt Head. Nicholas Ivone, Demetrius Dunlap, Mitchell Lumley and Michael Ellenbest make up the very talented 2013 recruiting class.

"This recruiting class filled some spots that we really needed, especially in terms of speed. We also managed to land some guys who can come in and play a role on the mound in our starting rotation," said Coach Head.

Nicholas Invone
A speedy player who prepped for head coach Jeff Dropps at L'Anse Creuse North High School, will most likely join the Cardinals in the outfield in 2013-14. Ivone earned all conference as well as all county honors in his junior season.

"Nick will arrive on campus as one of the fastest guys on our team. He can bunt and, as a true center fielder, has great range in the outfield." – Coach Head

Michael Ellenbest
A starting pitcher who prepped for Nick Kaplack at Medina High School.  Michael has been a vital part of the Battling Bees baseball program for the past two seasons.

"Mike is a big guy with lots of room for development and growth. He has a good curve, change-up and a slider. Mike has the potential to start in our rotation as a freshman with his 84-87 velocity." – Coach Head

Mitchell Lumley
A well-rounded player for head coach Scott Ponegelak at Lake Michigan College, where he spent his freshman year.  Lumley is also a player on the London Badgers baseball club as a pitcher and an infielder under head coach and his father, Mike Lumley.

"Mitch will be able to help us in many aspects. He could start anywhere for us: starting or relief as well as a third baseman. Mitch has a great arm and comes from good stock." – Coach Head

Demetrius Dunlap
A standout player for head coach Dale Rumburger at Salem High School.  Dunlap was named Team MVP, Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year for Salem in 2012, and Rookie of the Year honors in 2011.

"Demetrius is a true all-around athlete; he can hit, run and steal bases for us which is something we really needed. He will be able to fill a role in the outfield for us as he can really fly."– Coach Head
