Caserta and Jennings Named 2012 BSN Preseason All-Americans

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - With the kickoff of the 2012 season a little more than two months away, Saginaw Valley State University football players are already beginning to collect preseason honors. Senior linebacker Grant Caserta and junior quarterback Jonathon Jennings were each named to the Beyond Sports Network Preseason All-American Team on Monday (June 25).

Caserta, a senior linebacker from Holland, Mich., started nine games for the Cardinals in 2011. He recorded 85 tackles (42 solo) and two interceptions last season before missing the final two games with an injury. Caserta turned in double-digit tackle totals against four different opponents, including a 17-tackle performance against Hillsdale College.

Jennings, a junior quarterback from Columbus, Ohio had a breakout season as a sophomore, throwing for 2,924 yards on 210-for-309 (.680) passing with 29 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Jennings posted the nation's 3rd-best passer efficiency rating (172.59) and ranked eighth nationally with 303.64 yards of total offense per game. He eclipsed the 300-yard plateau six times in 2011 on his way to the third best single-season passing total in SVSU history. Jennings recorded two or more passing touchdowns in every contest last season, including three or more in six games. He also rushed for seven touchdowns in 2011.

The Cardinals will open their 2012 campaign on September 1 when they host Valdosta State for a 7:00 p.m. contest at Wickes Stadium.
