MARQUETTE, Mich. - The SVSU men's golf team opened its 2016 fall season with a fourth place finish at the Northern Michigan Invitational this past weekend.

The Cardinals opened play on Saturday with a score of 315 and followed that up with a 304 on Sunday. That 619 total placed them in the fourth slot.

Three SVSU players posted a score of 78 in round one to lead the way, as Dustin Pumford, Austin Carter and Jordan Weaver all carded that score.

On Sunday, Carter had the low round with a 74, while Pumford posted a 76. Mason Motte and Ryan Peruski each shot a 77 as well.

The team champion for the NMU Invite was decided in a playoff, as Ferris State (315-299) and Cardinal Stritch (307-307) each finished with a 614. The Bulldogs won the playoff to capture the Wildcat Invitational title.

The guys will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday, as they travel to play in the GLIAC North Invitational, hosted at the HawksHead Golf Course in South Haven, Mich.
