NASHPORT, Ohio -- The SVSU men's golf team finished competition on Sunday (Apr. 23) at the 2017 GLIAC Men's Golf Championships, which were held at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. After vaulting seven spots from 11th to 4th on day two, the Cardinals finished in the No. 4 slot for the three-day tournament.
Saginaw Valley finished the tournament with scores of 317-295-302, finishing 10 shots behind third place Tiffin overall. GVSU claimed the championship, tallying a total score of 890.
Dustin Pumford and Ryan Peruski each fired the low round on Sunday for SV, posting a score of 74. Peruski had a top-10 finish, as he carded scores of 76-75-74 to finish tied for ninth at +9. Pumford was tied for 23rd with scores of 81-75-74 (+14).
Austin Carter tied Pumford at the 23rd overall slot, notching a final round score of 77 on Sunday. He posted marks of 81-72-77 for his 14-over total.
Mason Motte was the second-highest finisher for the Cardinals on the weekend, tying for 20th with his rounds of 79-73-77 (+13).
Jared Lyons rounded-out play for SV, tying for 42nd with scores of 81-76-82 (+23).
The Cardinals, who are currently ranked No. 6 in the Midwest Regional rankings, are sitting in good position for selection into the 2017 NCAA Division II Super Regionals. The tournament will feature the top-10 teams in both the midwest and central regions, which will all be vying for a trip to the national championships. The tournament is set to be played May 8-10 at Awarii Dunes Golf Course in Axtell, Nebraska.
