LINWOOD, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's cross country teams finished in seventh and fifth places, respectively, at the 2012 GLIAC Championships today (Oct. 20) held at Maple Leaf Golf Course in Linwood, Michigan.
The Lady Cardinals were paced by Emily Short (Tawas, Mich. / Tawas Area HS) who crossed the line with a time of 21:28.8 to finish in ninth place. Short's top-10 finish earned her Second Team All-GLIAC recognition.
Senior Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich.) followed with a strong performance in 17th place at conferences as she clocked in at 22:05.2, while Chantelle Fondren (Chesaning, Mich.) completed the course in 22:39.8 in 39th position.
Coming in 41st overall for the Cardinals was Tori Peet (Lapeer, Mich. / Lapeer West HS) with a time of 22:44.5 along with Amanda Paris (Hemlock, Mich.) who recorded a mark of 22:55.0 good for 51st place. The SVSU lineup was rounded out by Jessica Reeves (Sanford, Mich. / Meridian HS) who ran the course in 23:18.2 (65th) and Teha Ames (Shepherd, Mich.) with a time of 23:37.1 (69th).
The Cardinal men were led by Tyler Noble (Shepherd, Mich.) in 33rd place with a time of 25:27.5 followed by Eric Spitz (Holt, Mich.) who clocked in at 25:32.6 in 37th position. Next up for SVSU was Joseph Burelle (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson HS) as he crossed the finish line at 25:33.4 in 38th position, while Drew Meylan (Bay City, Mich. / Western HS) took 42nd place after a mark of 25:37.6.
Tony Peel (Swartz Creek, Mich.) completed the 8k race for SVSU with a mark of 25:39.3 in 46th place along with Jacob Lauka (Oxford, Mich. / Lake Orion HS) who took 59th position overall as he clocked in at 26:09.3. The Saginaw Valley lineup was rounded out in 73rd position as Chad Scott (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern HS) recorded a time of 26:34.6 in the soggy conditions.
The Cardinal runners will return their championship season in Kenosha, Wisconsin in two weeks (Nov. 3) at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships.
