INDIANAPOLIS -- Four Saginaw Valley State University Track & Field student-athletes have been selected to compete at the 2018 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships after their performances during the 2018 spring season.
Mudd has the sixth-best point total entering the outdoor championships in the decathlon. He carries a score of 7,118 that he scored out in California at the Cerritos Invitational and Combined Events. Mudd is a three-time all-american for the Cardinals. He earned those honors in the heptathlon and decathlon in 2015 and this year in the heptathlon.
Black, the 2018 GLIAC Champion in the decathlon, is the No. 11 ranked athlete in the decathlon. He has a seed score of 6,991 that he posted while claiming the GLIAC title at this year's championships in Ashland. Black has earned a pair of all-american honors for the Cardinals. He was named all-american last year in the decathlon and this year in the heptathlon.
VanderVeen will enter the championships with the No. 19 height in the high jump. He cleared the bar with a height of 2.11 meters at the GVSU Last Chance Meet to improve his score and secure a bid to the championships. VanderVeen is looking to follow up his all-american showing in the high jump from the indoor season.
Goforth has the No. 18 ranked time in the 10,000 meter run. He clocked-in with a time of 29:58.48 at the 2018 Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic. The 2016 cross country all-american competed in the 2017 outdoor national championships in the 5,000 meter run as well.
The championships will be held May 24-26 in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Irwin Belk Complex. Johnson C. Smith University will serve as the host of the championships.
