ASHLAND, Ohio - For the first time in the NCAA era of the program, the SVSU women's basketball team will compete in the NCAA Division II National Tournament for a second straight season. The Cardinals have secured the No. 3 overall seed in the Midwest Region and will square-off against No. 6 Lewis University on Friday in the regional quarterfinal round. tip-off is set for Noon at Kates Gymnasium on the campus of Ashland University.
Friday's meeting with the Flyers will mark the third time in the history of the program that the Cardinals have qualified for the NCAA Tournament. SVSU has advanced to the Round of 32 on both prior occasions, defeating Bellarmine last season in the opening round and Indianapolis in the 1992-93 tourney opener.
SVSU enters this weekend's tournament with a 22-7 overall record and have claimed back-to-back GLIAC North Division championships. It marks two straight years the team has compiled 22 wins and its 17-4 GLIAC record matched last year's program mark of 17 league victories. The 22 wins the past two seasons are the most since the 1987-88 campaign (25-7).
Lewis carries a 23-8 overall record into play this weekend. The Flyers dropped a 67-63 contest in the GLVC Tournament Championship game to No. 2 regional seed, Drury. Lewis defeated SVSU in an earlier meeting this season by an 80-43 score over Christmas Break on Dec. 30.
Fans can order tickets at the Ashland University business office in person or over the phone at 419-289-5958, online by clicking the above link or at the gate starting one hour before tipoff each day. There will be no ticket sale for upcoming games on site following each day's games.
Tickets will go on sale starting Tuesday, March 7, at 10 a.m. Prices per session are $17 for reserved seats, $12 for adult general admission and $8 for seniors/students. An all-session package is $60 for reserved seats, $42 for adult general admission and $30 for seniors/students.
Fans can buy a package which includes tickets for all three days, or tickets for individual sessions.
Friday's four games will be split into two sessions - the first session is the first two games, the second session is the last two games. The gym will be cleared following the first session, and no one will be allowed into the gym for the second session until the first session is completely cleared.
