"We are very excited to announce our 2017 class and welcome all 8 members to the program!  This is by far the most athletic, deep and versatile class that we have brought in. Each of them has an incredible work ethic and desire to be the best.  Most importantly, they are a perfect fit for the culture that we have begun to establish and they will help this program continue to grow!" – SVSU Women's Basketball Head Coach Jamie Pewinski

2017-18 SVSU Women's Basketball Recruiting Class

Kaitlyn Geers – 5'11 – Forward, Kent City H.S., Kent City, MI

Kaitlyn prepped at Kent City High School, where she participated in basketball, volleyball and track...she earned all-state honors during the 2016 and 2017 seasons and was named all-area and all-conference for the 2015, 2016 and 2017 campaigns...Geers was named the conference's Most Outstanding Player for the 2016 and 2017 seasons as well...she earned academic all-state honors for basketball in 2016 and 2017, as well as volleyball in 2017...she is the school's Valedictorian...majoring in Pre-Med...daughter of Rob and Lynelle Geers.

"Kaitlyn will be able to play a couple different positions for us.  She handles the ball pretty well, but is also able to make plays in the post and around the basket.  She has great length which will help her on the defensive end to guard multiple types of players.  What I like most about Kaitlyn though is her pure excitement for being a Cardinal and her enthusiasm to be a college student-athlete" – Coach Pewinski

Skylar Howard – 6'0 – Forward, Midland H.S., Midland, MI

Skylar prepped at Midland High School, where she participated in basketball, tennis and volleyball...the Midland High School Girls Basketball all-time rebounding leader was twice named First Team All-Saginaw Valley League and earned a pair of Midland News Dream Team honors...Howard is a member of the National Honor Society and earned the BCAM Team First Award...Skylar is majoring in business...daughter of Sharon and Sam Howard.

"We are definitely excited that Skylar wanted to continue her basketball career close to home! Her game continues to grow and that's a testament to her work ethic and not being satisfied.  She's extremely coachable and her best years of basketball are ahead of her.  Her strength is on the defensive end and she is not afraid to mix it up in the paint or to guard a smaller player out on the perimeter.  We can't wait for the opportunity to coach Skylar" – Coach Pewinski

Lillia Schoof – 6'0 – Forward, Waterford Kettering H.S., Waterford, MI

Lillia prepped at Waterford Kettering High School, participating in basketball, volleyball and track...she was selected as the top player to watch in Oakland Country and earned all-conference honors during the 2015, 2016 and 2017 seasons...she earned all-state honors in the 300 hurdles for track, also earning three all-conference honors in the sport...Lillia will be majoring in business...daughter of Rob and Michelle Schoof.

"Lillia is a tremendous athlete and can really get up and down the floor.  She is relentless on the boards and that is something that can't be taught.  She will mostly be matched up with the other teams post players, but Lillia has the potential to be an excellent ball screen defender!" – Coach Pewinski

Rozhane Wells – 5'6 – Guard, Ann Arbor Prep H.S., Ypsilanti, MI

Rozhane attended Arbor Preparatory High School, where she participated in basketball and volleyball...she was named Second Team All-State twice for Class B, also earning academic all-state and Ann Arbor News Dream Team honors...Wells was a member of the National Honor Society...her college major is undecided...she is the daughter of Darlene and Rodrick Wells.

"Rozhane will predominantly be a point guard for us.  She is an excellent on-ball defender and will be able to pressure the opposing ballhandlers full court.  On the offensive end, she is very hard to keep out of the paint and can break her defender down to create shots whenever needed.  She has had an unbelievably successful high school career and we look for her to bring that winning attitude to this program!" – Coach Pewinski

Julia Cianferra – 5'7 – Guard, Henry Ford II H.S., Utica, MI

Julia prepped at Henry Ford II High School in Shelby Township, participating in basketball, track, lacrosse and softball...Cianferra was named to the BCAM's Class A All-State Team, All-Macomb County All-Start First Team, Macomb County Tier 1 First Team and All-Defensive Team and was named the MAC White MVP...the National Honor Society member earned All-State Academic plaudits and is majoring in the medical field...daughter of Bev and Dino Cianferra.

"Julia continues to improve her game every year and has been a great leader for her high school team!  She is going to be an incredible teammate and has all of the intangibles to be a great addition to our program!" – Coach Pewinski

Kendal Schramek – 6'0 – Guard, Benet Academy, Naperville, IL

Kendal prepped at the Benet Academy in Lisle, Illinois, participating in basketball...she claimed two state championships, earning all-conference and all-state honorable mention plaudits...Kendal was named to the Sun All-Area Second-Team and is the winningest player in the academy's history...Schramek will be majoring in criminal justice...daughter of Jim and Jennifer Schramek.

"Kendal has a high basketball IQ and that allows her to play multiple positions on the floor.  She is very unselfish and is more likely to create for others than for herself.  She sees the floor well, which is a huge asset when you're playing multiple positions.  She has competed at the highest level in high school and won two state championships.  We look forward to the lessons learned at Benet translating over to her time at SVSU!" – Coach Pewinski

Kierra Crockett – 6'0 – Forward, North Farmington H.S., Farmington, MI

Kierra prepped at North Farmington High School, participating in basketball and track...the two-year varsity captain was also a member of the National Honor Society...she is majoring in psychology...Crockett is the daughter of Dee Dee and Kenzo Crockett.

"Kierra will be one of the best athletes we've ever had in this program! She is going to be able to score in multiple ways from the perimeter, but it's her ability to defend that has us really excited about her. She is driven to succeed in all aspects and is a great addition to this class." – Coach Pewinski

Simone Comer – 5'9 – Guard, Ursuline H.S., Youngstown, OH

Simone prepped at Ursuline High School, participating in basketball...she has been named to the Northeast Ohio Second and Third Teams, as well as earning All-Ohio Honorable Mention honors...Comer has earned Team MVP, Most Improved Player and Player's Coach Award during her prep career...the NHS and honor roll member will be majoring in business...daughter of Angel and Phil Comer.

"Simone has played a lot of point guard in her career, but will be able to slide to the two if needed.  She has great length and thrives on the defensive end.  Offensively she can run an offense, but knows when to push the pace too.  Her versatility at both ends will make her a key addition to this class!" – Coach Pewinski
