ATLANTA, Ga. - The Saginaw Valley State University Women's Basketball team landed once again on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll.

The Cardinals finished 18th in all of NCAA Division II with their team GPA of 3.576, coupling a stellar performance in the classroom with their second straight GLIAC North Division Championship and trip to the Round of 32 of the NCAA Division II Tournament.

It is the third time in four years that the program has been listed in the WBCA Top-25 Academic Team Honor Roll. SVSU finished 17th nationally in 2014-15 with a GPA of 3.559 and 8th in the 2013-14 campaign with a mark of 3.61.

"I'm proud of our team and the efforts they put forth in the classroom," said Head Coach Jamie Pewinski. "Getting a degree and putting academics first is something that we always talk about, but this shows that there is action behind those words! All of the credit goes to each athlete and their dedication to pursuing their degree and accomplishing their goals."

A team's GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of quality points (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0) earned by the total number of academic hours attempted by all team members in the academic terms (semesters or quarters) that the season spans. Weighted grades are converted to a 4.0 scale. The GPAs are rounded to the nearest thousandth of a point. Teams are nominated for the honor by the WBCA-member head coach. A team must have a 3.000 or better GPA to be nominated.
