BAY CITY — Three Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer student-athletes were named All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) following postseason balloting conducted by the league's head coaches in conjunction with the annual league tournament.
Sophomore Molly Vanderhoff was selected to the All-GLIAC First Team as a Midfielder. Vanderhoff posted four goals and five assists in the 2017 campaign, topping her first year as a Cardinal by three assists. She is ranked first in assists for SVSU and tied for second in goals scored. Two of Vanderhoff's goals this season were game-winners for the Cardinals.
Sophomore defender Jennifer Muana held down the back line for the second year in a row, earning back-to-back All-GLIAC accolades. Muana was named All-GLIAC First Team as a defender, leading the team to the seven shutouts this season. She added three goals this season including one game-winner. Last season she recorded a pair of assists from the back line and was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention squad.
Junior forward Mallory Hestwood earned her first All-GLIAC Honorable Mention accolade for her performance on the Cardinal offensive line, recording one game-winning goal in the last regular season match up of the season and an assist in the GLIAC quarterfinals victory over Ferris State. Hestwood started every game in 2017 and now has three goals and three assists in her SVSU career.
The Lady Cards finished sixth in GLIAC regular season play, earning a bid into the GLIAC Tournament that began earlier this week. The Cardinals are currently 10-6-1 overall and 4-4-1 in conference play after defeating Ferris State on the road for their first quarterfinal victory in the GLIAC tournament since 2012. Saginaw Valley will take on Ashland at Grand Valley State for the GLIAC semifinals beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
