HOUGHTON, Mich. - The SVSU women's tennis team finished-off a weekend upper peninsula sweep after posting a 6-3 victory at Michigan Tech on Sunday (Oct. 2) morning. The Cardinals got off to a good start by claiming two of the three doubles matches and would continue on to win four of the singles contests for the win.
After the Huskies claimed the win at no. 1 doubles, the no. 3 team of Taylor McLaughlin and Abigail Shonk got the Cards on the board with an 8-4 victory. Izabella Ismailova and Danielle Slonac then made the lead 2-1 after defeating their opponents by a narrow 9-7 count at no. 2 doubles.
The Huskies would take a 3-2 edge after posting victories at the no. 3 and no. 1 singles positions, respectively. The Cards would close-out from there and take the final four to claim the 6-3 win.
First up was Slonac at no. 4 singles, as she claimed a 6-3 6-2 win over her opponent. McLaughlin then cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 decision at the no. 5 slot. Madeline Miller would follow suit, posting a 6-4, 6-3 win in no. 6 singles action.

From Head Coach Jenn Boehm
"We didn't have every result go our way but we came up with some amazing performances that led us to this big win. We had some marathon matches and we were able to persevere to get the wins we needed. Ana played a truly inspiring match coming from behind and was a great representation of what our team is all about. We truly earned this victory over a tough Michigan Tech team and we are ready to play on our home courts next weekend!"
Saginaw Valley (3-3, 3-3 GLIAC) returns to the SVSU Tennis Complex this upcoming weekend for a pair of matches. The Cardinals host Ashland University Saturday (Oct. 8) at 1:00 p.m. before playing against Walsh University on Sunday in a 10:00 a.m. contest.
