ORLANDO, Fla. - The SVSU women's tennis team stayed perfect on their spring trip to Florida, defeating John Carroll University 8-1 Friday, March 10 at the Fort Gatlin Tennis Complex in Orlando, Florida.

The Cardinals quickly won their matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, as Izabella Ismailova and Taylor McLaughlin won 8-3, and Madeline Miller and Abigail Shonk followed with an 8-2 decision. That set the stage for a hotly contested match at No. 1 doubles, where SVSU's Shea Donahue and Ana Pico Garcia prevailed 8-6.

Donahue rallied in her match at No. 3 singles, winning 3-6, 6-0, 10-3. Pico Garcia won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 5-1 (retired).

McLaughlin claimed a victory at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1; Miller won her match at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-2.Shonk completed the scoring at No. 6 singles, winning 6-3, 6-1.

Ismailova dropped her No. 1 singles match 4-6, 1-6 to Lauren O'Malley, who is the No. 45-ranked player in the nation at the NCAA Division III level.

"We expected a competitive match, and we got one. I was pleased to see a lot of fight on the court from our team," said SVSU head coach Jenn Boehm. "We showed what we can do when we are focused and supporting one another."

"It was a strong showing and a great way to finish a trip where we won all four matches we played. We were able to explore different doubles pairings and get match experience that will serve us well next year, but we are still hungry to win our final two matches of the spring season."

The Cardinals are now 13-5 overall for the year. They return to the court Friday, March 24 against Lawrence Tech at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
