MIDLAND - The SVSU women's tennis team hosted the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils on Friday (Mar. 24) afternoon in a non-conference tilt at the Greater Midland Tennis Center. The Cardinals were dominant throughout, cruising to a 9-0 sweep in the contest.

The doubles sector had a pair of competitive matches, beginning when Shea Donahue and Ana Pico Garcia defeated their opponents by an 8-4 score at te No. 1 position. Izabella and Danielle Slonac played together at the No. 2 doubles position for the first time since the GLIAC Tournament in October. The duo didn't skip a beat, as they cruised to an 8-1 win over their opponents. The Cardinals won by forfeit at the No. 3 doubles slot.

In singles play, there were five new players taking the court for Saginaw Valley who didn't compete in doubles action. Abigail Shonk and Mikayla Kazdan made quick work of their opponents, landing 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at the No. 3 and No. 5 positions, respectively. Samantha Perkins made her debut at the No. 4 single slot and landed a 6-3, 6-2 victory. At No. 2, Madeline Miller had a solid performance in a 6-2, 6-2 win. Taylor McLaughlin played at No. 1 singles for the first time in her career, rounding-out the team sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over her opponent. The Blue Devils forfeited the match at No. 6 singles as well.

From Head Coach Jenn Boehm...

"Today was a true team victory. We were able to give everyone a starting spot to compete, which makes for a fun match. With our opponent being down a player it definitely put them in a tough position but our team still had to play well to come out on top. I was proud of the focus and execution today but the highlight was definitely seeing all of our girls out on the court battling together. They have all earned it with the work they have put in during the off-season. We also had the stands filled with family and supporters, which is what it's all about. It was like a family reunion. We're looking forward to the grand finale versus Hillsdale on April 2nd!"
