UNIVERSITY CENTER - SVSU senior women's tennis student-athlete Ana Pico Garcia has been named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District At Large Team for the 2016-17 academic year.
Garcia, who posted a 3.89 cumulative GPA as a graphic design major, rounded-out her senior season for the Cardinals with a 15-3 overall record, rattling-off 14 straight singles victories to finish the season. Her record was 13-3 overall at No. 2 singles and she was 2-0 at the No. 1 position. Garcia added a 12-8 mark in doubles play, mostly playing at the No. 1 position (11-7).
The Cardinals finished the season with an overall mark of 15-5, finishing the campaign with eight straight victories in the spring. Their 4th place finish in the GLIAC was the best since the 2000 season.
Ana will join the Cardinal coaching staff this fall as a volunteer assistant coach and graduate in December with her graphic design degree.
SVSU head coach Jenn Boehm on Ana Pico Garcia...
"In two short years, Ana has made an incredible impact here at SVSU both on and off the court. Her competitive nature and tennis results are impressive, but only represent a small portion of her contributions to our program and university. She is an amazing artist, passionate student, and was a tremendous mentor and leader to her teammates. She has battled through adversity to reach her goals in both academics and tennis. She is extremely deserving of this recognition and I am so proud to have her as representative of our program."
First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and thirdteam All-America® honorees will be selected later this month.
