CANTON, Ohio - The Cardinal volleyball team opened its weekend trip to Canton, Ohio with a 3-1 victory over the Malone University Pioneers on Friday evening (Oct. 18). The victory improves SVSU's record to 11-7 overall and 6-4 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 8-10 overall and 3-7 in league play.
SVSU fell in an early 0-1 hole, as Malone claimed the first set by a score of 25-21. The Cards responded in set number two with a 25-19 victory to knot the match at 1-1. They would continue on and take the third frame by a 25-21 margin, making the advantage 2-1. Saginaw Valley would then close things out with a decisive 25-14 victory in the fourth and final set.
Makenzie Frodle led the charge for the Cardinals in the contest. The junior hit for a .333 percentage, registering 10 kills and adding seven total blocks. She added one of five Cardinal aces and had a pair of digs. She was named the Chili's "Player of the Match" for her efforts.
Libero Brooke Tiller had a match-high 25 digs against the Pioneers.
Kate Czopek added 18 digs and had seven kills offensively.
The Cardinals travel just up the road tomorrow and face Walsh University in a 4:00 pm contest. The Cavaliers (4-13, 1-9 GLIAC) are coming-off a 3-2 loss at the hands of Lake Superior State.
