Marissa GeRue Ties for Second at GLIAC Championships

AUGUSTA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's golf program completed stroke play at the GLIAC Championships on Sunday, April 19. The Cardinals finished third out of eight teams, narrowly missing the cut for the medal match play.

Marissa GeRue led SVSU, moving up five spots in the final round to tie for second out of 42 golfers. She shot a 72 (E) on Sunday to finish with a three-round total of 221 (+5), just one stroke behind the tournament leader.

Christina Nagy recorded the only under-par round of the tournament for the Cardinals with a 71 (-1) in the final round. She climbed eight spots to tie for 11th, finishing with a total of 229 (+13).

Averie Pumford shot an 82 (+10) in the final round to finish with a total of 233 (+17). Andie Martin finished one stroke and two spots behind, placing 19th after improving on her back-to-back rounds of 79 (+7) with a 76 (+4) on Sunday for a total of 234 (+18).

Alivia Ligrow rounded out the lineup, tying for 23rd after shooting an 82 (+10) in the final round to finish at 243 (+27).

As a team, SVSU recorded the most pars in the field with 170, the fourth-most birdies with 19, and the third-fewest bogeys with 67. GeRue led the tournament with 41 pars, recorded the fewest bogeys with four, and topped the field on par fours, averaging 4.00 strokes per hole.
