LANSING, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State Univerisy women's cross country team competed in the 5,000 meter Lansing Community College Invitational on Friday (Sept. 28) at Grand Woods Park. The Cardinals won the Invitational with 29 points, 50 points ahead of second place Hope College. The Cardinal men won the 8,000 meter Invitational with 43 points, 20 points ahead of second place Indiana Tech.
Senior Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich. / Flat Rock HS) took home first place honors crossing the line in 18:02.8, :13 second ahead of her nearest competitor. Sophomore Emily Short (Tawas, Mich. / Tawas Area HS) finished third overall, timing in at 18:20.9. Sophomore Tori Peet (Lapeer, Mich. / Lapeer West HS) was the third Cardinal to cross the finish line in seventh place in an overall time of 19:11.3.
Chantelle Fondren (Chesaning, Mich. / Chesaning HS), Amanda Paris (Hemlock, Mich. / Hemlock HS) and Stephanie McMall (Bay City, Mich. / Bay City Western HS) rounded out the Cardinals finishing in the top-20. Fondren crossed the line in 19:22.1, while Paris clocked in at 19:31.2 and McMall in 19:39.6.
On the men's side, senior Tyler Noble (Shepherd, Mich.) paced the Cardinals with a fifth place finish in a time of 25:47.0. Sophomore Drew Meylan (Bay City, Mich. / Bay City Western HS) finished right on his heals in sixth place, crossing the line in 25:51.9. Seniors Eric Spitz(Holt, Mich. / Holt HS) and Joseph Burelle (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson HS) crossed the line in ninth and tenth place, Spitz timed in a t 26:03.2, while Burelle finished in 26:06.9 respectively.
Junior Chad Scott (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern HS) and sophomores Tony Peel (Swartz Creek, Mich. / Swartz Creek HS) and Jacob Lauka (Oxford, Mich. / Lake Orion HS) rounded out the Cardinal runners finishing in the top-20. Scott finished 13th with a time of 26:14.6, while Peel and Lauka finished in 17th and 18th place. Peel finished in a time of 26:38.5 and Lauka finished in 26:41.5.
The Cardinals will return to the course on Oct. 5 when they compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships in Grand Rapids, Mich.
