ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's cross country team had a stellar day, with a second-place showing in the men's 4.97-mile race at the Lewis Crossover. The Cardinal men had four athletes finish in the top 18, achieving a team total of 137 that secured second place by 16 points. The women finished 16th out of 36 teams in the 3.73-mile race with a final score of 423.
Jack Lobodzinski (Highland, Mich. / Milford HS) led things on the men's side with a top-five finish when he crossed the line at 23:58.4 to place fourth. Jacob Walker (Jerome, Mich. / Columbia Central Senior HS) followed two spots back for sixth with a time of 24:05. 3. Nicholas McArdle (Ubly, Mich. / Cass City HS) was the third Cardinal in the top-10 after finishing ninth with a time of 24:19.7. Corey Bowers (Cedar Springs, Mich. / Cedar Springs HS) completed the quartet of Cardinals in the top-18th with a 16th-place time of 24:25.5. Adam Thomas (New Baltimore, Mich. / Anchor Bay HS) was the fifth SVSU finisher for the men with a time of 25:29.6.
Tara Szuper (Carleton, Mich. / Airport HS) led the women's team with a top-60 time of 22:34.9. Karissa Picard (Bay City, Mich. / Bay City Western HS) followed 10 spots behind with a time of 22:42.6. Kinsie Jacques (Pinconning, Mich. / Pinconning HS) crossed the finish line at 22:54.6. Jenna Sweeney (Reese, Mich. / Reese HS) clocked in at 22:56.2 and Alexis Tracy (Brethren, Mich. / Brethren HS) finished with a time of 23:22.6 to round out the scoring for the women's team.
