Robert Atwater - Men's Track & Field
Robert Atwater (Detroit, Mich. / Lincoln Park HS) took home the championship and posted a new program record with a personal best of 2.20 meters in the high jump during last weekend's GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The 7'2.5" total best the indoor record he tied earlier this season by two inches. His performance tied the GLIAC record and automatically qualified him for the NCAA championships. He also finished fourth in the long jump with a personal best and provisional distance of 7.27 meters. After his top performances, he was named the GLIAC Indoor "Freshman of the Year" in field events.
The freshman ranks first in the GLIAC and second nationally in the NCAA Division II in the high jump after his performance last weekend. He also ranks sixth in the GLIAC and is tied for twenty-fifth nationally in the long jump.
Anna Fochesato - Women's Track & Field
Anna Fochesato (Holly, Mich. / Brandon HS) claimed a pair of GLIAC titles and NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the high jump and the triple jump at the 2016 GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. In the high jump, she crossed the bar at a final height of 1.71 meters for the top spot. Fochesato recorded a personal-best in the triple jump at 12.04 meters, breaking the program indoor record she set at last year's GLIAC Indoor Championships by five inches.
After her performance on Saturday, Fochesato is tied at twelfth nationally and third in the GLIAC in the high jump. In the triple jump, she is ranked fourteenth nationally and first in the GLIAC.
