Tyler Channell - Men's Soccer
Tyler Channell (Troy, Mich. / Troy Athens HS) Channell had a huge weekend in leading the No. 18 Cardinals to a pair of opening regional victories at Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside. Channell assisted on all three goals in the team's 3-0 victory over the Flyers on Friday before adding another two in the team's 4-1 victory over the Rangers on Sunday.
Saginaw Valley will travel to Northwood this Friday (September 11) at 4pm to play their first conference game of the season before hosting Marygrove on Sunday at 3:30 pm (September 13).
Kaylee Schmitt - Volleyball
Kaylee Schmitt (Dewitt, Mich. / Dewitt HS), a junior on SVSU's volleyball team was selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week after the opening weekend of play.
Schmitt had a solid weekend in leading the Cardinals to a 4-0 record at the Ferris State Invitational. Schmitt amassed 57 kills, averaging 3.17 per set, while hitting for a .345 percentage in the matches. She added 14 blocks, an average of 0.78 per set, and 11 digs. Schmitt notched a career-high 18 kills twice over the weekend. SVSU is off to a 4-0 start for the first time since 2008 (8-0). Kaylee was one of three Cardinals selected to the All-Tournament Team as well.
The Cardinals hit the road once more this upcoming weekend, as they are set to participate in the Vulcan Invitational at California (Pa.). SVSU faces off against Bridgeport (12 pm) and Clarion (3 pm) on Friday (Sep. 11) before tangling with Cal (10 am) and Truman (1 pm) on Saturday (Sep. 12).
