Joey Southgate - Cross Country
Joey Southgate (Unionville, Mich./Unionville-Sebewaing Area HS) competed in the Spartan Invitational last Friday (9/18), finishing with a time of 25:11 in the men's 8K race. This landed him at sixth place overall out of the 386 men who competed and was the fastest time of any GLIAC runner.
The Cardinals will compete again on October 2 at the Notre Dame Invitational in Indiana.
Izabella Ismailova - Tennis
Izabella Ismailova (Almaty, Kazkhstan/Military College of Sport) helped the women's tennis team win in both matches played at home last weekend.
On Friday against Lake Superior State, Ismailova and her #2 doubles partner Danielle Slonac won with a final match score of 8-5. Ismailova went on to quickly win her #1 singles match, 6-3 and 6-1.
At Saturday's match against Michigan Tech, she and Slonac again won posting an 8-4 victory. Ismailova also dominated in her singles match, winning both sets 6-2.
Saginaw Valley plays again this weekend at the ITA Regional Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
