Robert Tarpley - Men's Track & Field
Robert Tarpley (Lansing, Mich. / Everett HS) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships in both the long jump and the triple jump during the Jet's Pizza Invitational this past weekend. Tarpley took first in the long jump with a distance of 24' 1.5", setting a new indoor program record. He also took third in the triple jump with a distance of 46' 11.5".
Tarpley's new record ranks first in the GLIAC and seventh nationally in the NCAA Division II in the long jump. He also ranks second in the triple jump in the GLIAC and thirteenth nationally after recording a distance of 48' 7.5" at the Kent St. Golden Flash Gala last December.
Taylor Stepanski - Women's Track & Field
Taylor Stepanski (Alpena, Mich. / Alpena HS) automatically qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships when she took first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09.62. Stepanski's time also set a new fieldhouse record and ranks her first in the GLIAC and third nationally in the NCAA Division II.
The Cardinals host Northwood in a dual meet this Friday, February 5th, in the last home match of the season. Events begin at 5:00 pm.
