Luke Valutis - Baseball
Luke Valutis (Shelby Township, Mich. / Utica Eisenhower HS) went 10 for 18 in at bats, a .556 batting percentage, in his last week playing for the Cardinals. Valutis helped lead the Cardinals to their four game sweep over Ohio Dominican, scoring five runs total over the weekend. In his last game at SV on Sunday, Valutis posted his best performance, going 4 of 5 from the plate, scoring twice and batting in one.
The weekend sweep finishes the 2016 season for the Cardinals. SVSU posted an overall record of 22-28 and had a 14-18 mark in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley graduates seven seniors from this year's team.
DeAnna Stickler-Gatson - Women's Track & Field
DeAnna Stickler-Gatson (Lansing, Mich. / Muskegon CC) brought home a GLIAC championship in the 800 meters this past weekend with a personal record time of 2:11.31. The time was a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Outdoor Championships and ranks her 28th nationally and fifth in the GLIAC.
SVSU's track and field will compete again in the last chance meets this week and wrap up the season at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at the end of the month.
