UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University second baseman Kevin Dore (Kawkawlin, Mich./Muskegon CC) and designated hitter Charlie Thomas (Northville, Mich.) were both honored by the head coaches of the Midwest Region by being named to the American Baseball Coaches' Association (ABCA) All-Midwest Region Second Team. Dore, who was also named to the Daktronics, Inc. All-Midwest Region Second Team, was named to the 2010 Rawlings Midwest Region Gold Glove Team as well.
Dore led the Cardinals in hitting (.406) in the 2010 season for the second year in a row. He also led the team in at-bats (160), runs (45), hits (65), triples (3) and walks (22) on the season, and was an integral part of the Cardinals leading the nation in double plays per game, turning 1.16 per contest.
Dore grabbed the second base gold glove honor after having only five errors in 234 chances in 2010, while taking-part in 41 double plays for the Cardinals. He is now eligible for NCAA Division II Rawlings All-American Gold Glove consideration, which will be selected Sunday, May 29 in Cary, N.C. in conjuction with the Division II National Championship Tournament.
Thomas posted a .360 batting average this year, including six home runs, 12 doubles, 34 RBIs and 34 runs scored. He finishes his career in a Cardinal uniform in eighth place in career batting average (.352) and in seventh place for career doubles (42).
Both Dore and Thomas were selected to the 2010 All-GLIAC First Team in their senior campaigns, as Thomas was a second team selection in 2009.
