Baseball Announces Postseason Awards

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team announced its postseason team awards on Thursday (May 20). 

Senior infielder Kevin Dore (Kawkawlin, Mich./Muskegon CC) was selected as the 2010 "Most Valuable Player".  Dore led the Cardinals in batting average for the second-straight year, posting a .406 mark this season, and also led the team in at-bats (160), runs (45), hits (65), triples (3) and walks (22) on the season, and was an integral part of the Cardinals leading the nation in double plays per game, turning 1.16 per contest, as he was a part of 41 of them.

Dore was named to the 2010 ABCA All-Midwest Region Second Team as well as the Daktronics, Inc. All-Midwest Region Second Team and NCBWA Midwest Region Second Team.  Dore was also selected as a member of the 2010 All-GLIAC First Team.

The 2010 "Coach's Award" went to freshman pitcher Carson Beauchaine (Fraser, Mich.).  Beauchaine started eight games on the mound for the Cards, posting a 4.03 ERA while working 51.1 innings, highlighted by a two-hit, complete game 1-0 shutout of Ashland University on Apr. 21.

The 2010 "Top Pitcher Award" went to sophomore Colin Coulter (Clio, Mich./Powers Catholic HS).  Coulter posted a 4-1 record for SVSU this season while appearing in 11 games for the Cardinals, starting seven of them.

Freshman outfielder Kyle O'Boyle (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek HS) was named the 2010 "Freshman of the Year".  O'Boyle posted a .331 average on the year, starting in 44 of the team's 45 games.  Kyle led the team in home runs with seven, had seven doubles, one triple, 35 RBIs and 19 walks on the season.

The Cardinals advanced to the GLIAC Baseball Tournament for the first time since 2007, and finished the year with a 22-23 overall record.
