MIDLAND -- The SVSU Baseball team dropped two games at Northwood University on Friday afternoon, falling in the opener by a 5-2 score and dropping the nightcap by a 12-8 count.
Saginaw Valley took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd when Adam Turner hit a solo shot to left field.
The home squad tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the 4th but another Turner blast in the 5th gave the visitors a 2-1 lead.
Northwood went for four runs in the bottom of the 5th, however, and claimed a 5-2 edge over the Cardinals.
There were no runs scored the rest of the way and NU came away with the win at that same 5-2 count.
Amani Godfrey (3-3) took the loss on the mound, working 4.1 innings. He allowed five runs on 10 hits, striking-out two batters and walking three.
The Timberwolves did all of their scoring in the first five innings, taking a 12-0 lead over the Cardinals in the nightcap.
Turner would blast his third home run of the day in the top of the 5th inning, trimming the deficit to 12-2 after he plated Craig Wilson. Two more runs came SVSU's way in the 7th when Joshua Riggs had an RBI groundout and Wilson added an RBI infield single to make the score 12-4.
After an 8th inning run for the Cardinals made the score 12-5, the visitors continued to put the pressure on in the 9th inning versus the Timberwolves.
Turner added another RBI with a single and Martin Money delivered an RBI single to trim the deficit to 12-7. Derrek Clyde would follow, pushing down a nice bunt single and scoring the final run for the Cardinals at 12-8.
Turner had two hits with a pair of runs and three RBI in the second game. Clyde had two hits with a run and RBI as well, as did Wilson with a double. Money was the only Cardinal with three hits in the game, knocking-in a run as well.
Brandon Wise (3-3) took the loss pitching, working 6.0 innings while allowing the 12 runs on 13 hits. He walked two and had a pair of strikeouts. Eric Fritz had three innings of scoreless relief for the Cards, allowing just a single hit.
The teams will resume play on Saturday, facing-off in another doubleheader that will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Midland.
