Schaaf Named GLIAC North "Player of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University sophomore forward Mike Schaaf (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill) and Wayne State University senior center Ike Udanoh (Detroit, Mich./Warren Woods Tower) have been chosen as the GLIAC Men's Basketball North and South Division "Players of the Week", respectively.

Schaaf came off the bench to lead the Cardinals to a win over Northern Michigan with a career-high 21 points. Mike went 8-for-14 from the field including 5-for-7 from three-point range against the Wildcats. He was also 3-for-5 from behind the arc in the win over Michigan Tech on Saturday (Jan. 14) where he finished with 10 points. In 22.1 minutes per contest, Schaaf is now averaging 6.4 points and 4.6 rebounds, while shooting 42 percent from the floor and 33 percent from the perimeter.

This is the second time this season a Saginaw Valley player has earned GLIAC North 'Player of the Week' honors. Chris Webb received the recognition on Nov. 21.

Schaaf and the Cardinals will return to action tonight (Jan. 17) as they welcome Central State University to O'Neill Arena for a regular season match-up at 7:00 PM. SVSU is 7-7 on the season, while CSU is 11-5.
