UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- Saginaw Valley State University junior Kevonne Taylor was named the GLIAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week by the league office this evening.
Taylor was a menace in the paint for the Cardinals in the 80-71 win on the road over Ashland on Sunday. He matched a career-high seven blocks while also pulling down seven rebounds and adding eight points. It is the second time this season he has recorded five or more blocks. He currently leads the GLIAC with 3.6 blocks per game and is tied for third in NCAA Division II with 18 blocks.
This is the first GLIAC player of the week award for the Cardinal men's basketball team this season and the second weekly conference award of Taylor's career.
Taylor will lead SVSU against Davenport on Thursday night for the first GLIAC game of the season. The opening tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
