GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team finished in a tie for seventh place at the second NCAA Division II Regional Tournament. The tournament was held at the par-72, 7,007 yard Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Ky. The Cardinals shot rounds of 299 and 295 to finish at +18 overall, two strokes behind sixth-place Northwood University. The University of Indianapolis won the Regional by 17 strokes, finishing the only team under par at -14. Ferris State was runner-up (+3).
Dieter Schulz (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern HS) was the top finisher for SVSU, shooting twin rounds of 72 to finish at even-par for the event, tying him for fifth place overall. Nate Kelly (Suttons Bay, Mich.) finished the two-day event at +6, tying for 36th overall. Mike Horn (Clarkston, Mich.) and Rob Ronk (Clarkston, Mich.) finished in a tie for 42nd, both shooting 76-75, respectively to finish at seven-over par.
Saginaw will compete next in the NCAA Regional #3, which will be held at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. on April 11-12.
