NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - The SVSU men's golf team competed on day one at the fourth NCAA Division II Midwest Regional golf tournament, held at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana. The Cardinals posted a score of 300 (+12) on the first day of competition, leaving them in a tie for 12th place overall with William Jewell College.
The University of Missouri-St. Louis and Northwood University sit atop the first round leaderboard after shooting team scores of 292 (+4).
Senior Carter Marsh led the effort for the Cards, firing a first round score of 71 (-1). The one-under performance ties for his lowest round of the season and is his third 71 overall this year.
Fellow seniors Wyatt Drost and Micah Skidmore were the next finishers for SVSU, as Drost shot a 74 (+2) for his round, putting him in a tie for 30th overall. Skidmore posted a 76 (+4) and he is tied for 60th after the first round.
Sophomore Ryan Peruski and junior Ryan Thomas rounded-out competition for Saginaw Valley, as they each shot a 79 (+7) on day one.
The Cardinals will return to the course on Monday for the second and final round of competition.
