Cardinals Set to Host GLIAC Soccer Championships

BAY CITY, Mich. - The field for the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's soccer tournament is set as regular season play finished on Sunday (Oct. 30).  Saginaw Valley State University will carry the No. 1 seed in the men's tournament after claiming its first regular season Championship in school history.  

The Cardinals will host the GLIAC men's soccer tournament having claimed the 2011 GLIAC title after posting the best conference record this season.  No. 2 seed, Ohio Dominican University, will face third-seeded Northwood University in Semifinal #1 at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 at the SVSU Soccer Complex.  That match will be followed by Semifinal #2 in which the Cardinals will face the No. 4 seed, Tiffin University, at 2:30 p.m.  The 2011 All-GLIAC men's soccer teams will also be announced between the semifinal matches.  The Championship game will be played at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the SVSU Soccer Complex.

This season the Cardinals are 2-0 against the Dragons, defeating them 1-0 on the road and 2-0 at home in University Center, Mich. earlier this season. The Cardinals are currently the No. 22 ranked team in the country and are also ranked No. 2 in the latest NCAA Regional Rankings.  SVSU finished the regular season with a record of 12-3-3 overall and 7-3-2 in the GLIAC.
