UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University junior defender Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS) has been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Men's Collegiate Scholar All-America Third Team.
Myers was one of two individuals from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) to receive the recognition, and one of only four players from the Midwest Region in Division II.
"This is a big honor and a great accomplishment for Zach and SVSU Soccer," said Head Coach Cale Wassermann.
Myers, the GLIAC "Defensive Player of the Year" and First Team All-GLIAC selection, started all 20 matches in his third season with the SVSU men's soccer program. Myers and the rest of the defense allowed just 18 goals in 20 games, leading the Cardinal men's soccer program to their first GLIAC Men's Soccer Championship and NCAA postseason appearance in school history. Myers tallied two goals and two assists this season on 18 shots. He was also selected to the NSCAA Midwest All-Region Team this season.
Myers, a Business Management major, has excelled in the classroom, achieving a 3.62 grade point average.
"To be recognized at the All-America level for your academics as well as soccer abilities says a lot about Zach's dedication not only on the field, but in the classroom as well," added Wassermann.
The Cardinals are coming off of a historic year in which they finished the season with a 12-5-3 record and ranked No. 22 in the final NSCAA Poll.
