TIFFIN, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team fell to the Northwood University Timberwolves by a score of 1-0 in the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship game on Sunday (11/9).

The loss was the second straight one goal loss in the GLIAC Tournament championship, as SVSU lost to top-seeded Ohio Dominican 2-1 in overtime in the 2013 GLIAC Tournament.

The first half was an offensive struggle for the Cardinals and Timberwolves, as only three total shots were taken.  Northwood managed one shot on goal but freshman goalkeeper Alexandre Bouillennec made the save.  The teams headed into the halftime break with the score tied at 0-0.

The game would remain scoreless until the 68:12 mark of the second half.  Adam Thomas headed in a crossing pass from Keaton Levock to beat Bouillennec to give Northwood a 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals could only manage one more shot the rest of the contest and Northwood would hold on for the 1-0 victory.

Bouillennec took the loss in net for the Cardinals, as he made one save in the contest.  The T'Wolves out-shot SVSU, 7-3.

Saginaw Valley's record drops to 13-4-2 while Northwood improves its record to 14-3-1.  Sunday's championship match was the third meeting between the schools this year, as the Timberwolves have claimed two of the three.

Tyler Channell, Vaughn Frederick, and Craig Neal were named to the 2014 GLIAC Men's Soccer All-Tournament Team for their performances over the weekend.  Frederick scored the game-winner for SVSU in the semfinals against Tiffin on Friday (11/7).

SVSU will wait for the releasing of the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer bracket on Monday (11/10) at 7:30 pm to see if its season will continue.  The top five teams in the Midwest Region will participate in the 35 team tournament.  The Cardinals were third in the latest regional rankings, released on November 5th.
