EUGENE, Ore. - The Saginaw Valley State University men’s track and field team was represented at the 2009 USATF Junior Nationals by freshman Nick Ekel (Elsie, Mich. / Ovid Elsie HS) who finished in third place with a time of 31:36.16 in the 10,000 meter run, beating his previous best by 28 seconds. Ekel’s third place finish was the best finish ever for anyone from Saginaw Valley.

The 2009 U.S. Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships serve as the selection meet for the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships, which will be held at Hasley Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad on July 31st and August 1st & 2nd. Ekel will serve as an alternate for the United States at the Pan American Junior Athletic Championships becoming the first Cardinal to serve in that capacity.
