Five Cardinals Earn All-GLIAC Softball Honors

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its postseason awards and all-conference teams on Friday (May 1) in conjunction with the 2015 GLIAC Softball Tournament.  There were five SVSU softball student-athletes honored after voting by the league's head coaches.

Senior catcher Amanda Best (Parker, Colo. / Dodge City CC) was named to the All-GLIAC First Team after a season in which she posted a .297 batting average, adding six home runs, six doubles, four triples and 24 RBIs.  

Fellow senior and centerfielder Mackenzie Rousse (Bay City, Mich. / Western HS) and junior pitcher Sarah Appold (Bay City, Mich. / Valley Lutheran HS) were both named to the All-GLIAC Second Team for their performances during the 2015 campaign.  Rousse was the only player to play in all 45 games for SVSU, as she led the way with 28 RBIs and had 44 hits.  She added five doubles, three triples and a pair of home runs, adding a team-best 18 stolen bases as well.  Appold had a great conference season, posting an 8-4 record with 10 complete games, striking-out 83 batters in 85.1 innings of work.  She had a stellar 1.72 ERA in league play.  

Senior second baseman Marcy Medina (Valparaiso, Ind. / Wheeler HS) and senior left fielder DeAnna Stickler-Gatson (Lansing, Mich. / Muskegon CC) each earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honors for the Cardinals as well.  Medina led the team with a .382 batting average, including six home runs, a team-high 13 doubles and 26 RBIs.  She walked a team-high 19 times and scored 27 runs and had 42 hits.  Stickler-Gatson had a team-high seven home runs, which ranked her fourth in the GLIAC as well.  She hit .305, adding 32 runs scored, three doubles and a pair of triples.  Stickler-Gatson walked 16 times as well.

The Cardinals (28-17) enter the 2015 GLIAC Softball Tournament as the #3 seed, facing-off against #6 Hillsdale College in the opening game at noon at Findlay's Marathon Diamonds.
