2016 GLIAC Championship Central

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University swimming & diving teams are set to compete in the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships, which take place from Feb. 10-13. The championship meet is being hosted by Wayne State University at Waterford Mott High School. 

The Cardinals will be competing in the championships for the second year on the women's side while the men will be making their first-ever appearance. The women finished in eighth place in their inaugural season with a total of 224.0 points. In 2015-16, the teams had a stellar dual meet record, as the women went 8-1 and the men were 7-1, with the only losses coming to a strong Northern Michigan University program.

SVSU has several student-athletes who have qualified for the national meet in the pool, with Shaun Yap and Amanda Thielen posting NCAA 'B' Qualifying times in the pool and Max Buxton, Kathleen Murphy and Wilhelmina Francisco all qualifying the the NCAA Dive-in Meet, which takes place the Tuesday before the NCAA Championships and allows all divers to compete for the actual NCAA Championships.
