UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's track & field team had an outstanding three days at the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships last week, finishing second with 183 points.
The Cardinals were led by Cheyenne Williamson, who took first place in six events, four individual and two relays. The Essexville, Mich., native was honored Monday by the GLIAC, sweeping the conference championship meet awards.
The GLIAC announced that Williamson is the 2021 Outdoor Track Athlete of the Meet, Field Athlete of the Meet, High-Point Athlete of the Meet, Freshman Track Athlete of the Meet, and Freshman Field Athlete of the Meet, sweeping the individual awards on the women's side,
Williamson spent a large portion of the three days at Davenport University standing at the top of the first-place podium. Individually, she won the GLIAC title in the 100-meter hurdles (13.94 seconds), the 200-meter dash (24.15 seconds), the long jump (6.09 meters), and the high jump (1.73 meters), all hitting the NCAA DII Provisional mark.
Williamson was also a member of the 4X100 and 4X400-meter relay teams for the Cardinals that took first place. The awards for the outdoor season are in addition to the four individual GLIAC honors and three national championships that she garnered during the 2021 indoor season.
