EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team competed at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University in East Lansing on Friday.
Samuel Meriweather highlighted the afternoon with a win in the men's 200m dash. His time of 21.79 seconds was just three tenths of a second quicker than teammate Trevor Culpepper, who finished second in the race. Zachary Harlan placed sixth in the event with his time of 22.16.
Sawyer Moloy placed second in the men's high jump after clearing the bar at 2.10m on his first attempt. Xavier Santiago finished just behind him in third after a clearance of 2.05m.
Darryl Carter set a new PR and finished third in the men's 100m race with a time of 10.89.
Noah Shaw had two top-five finishes in the throwing events, both marks PR's for the sophomore. Shaw was fourth in the hammer with an NCAA Division II qualifying mark of 58.72m and finished fifth in the discus with a launch of 49.14m. Andrew Quinn had a strong afternoon as well, finishing third in the shot put with a throw of 17.68m, an NCAA DII mark.
On the women's side, Katie Spicer placed fourth in the women's 100m with a time of 12.98, a PR for her career. Spicer was also in the top eight in the long jump after a leap of 5.01m. Alicia Fields was sixth in the race with a time of 13.11.
Marisa Johnson also placed fourth in her event, the 200m, after crossing the finish line in 25.45. Taylor Moyer finished the 200m in the top 10 with a sixth-place finish of 25.93, a PR for her. Abby Karst earned fourth in the javelin with a throw of 31.68m on her second attempt.
Grace Collett finished fifth in the 100h after a time of 15.62. She recorded a PR in the 200m with a finish of 26.78, placing her 15th in the event. Natalie Formsma was seventh in the 100 hurdles after clocking a time of 15.74. Formsma also collected seventh in the women's long jump after hitting a mark of 5.10m.
