URBANA, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State
University women’s basketball team lost today to Urbana
University, 69-57 despite a double-double performance from
sophomore forward Brittany Burkhardt (West Bloomfield, Mich.).
Burhardt drained a game-high 27 points, and pulled down a
game-high 13 rebounds to lead the Cardinals on 10-of-21 shooting
from the floor and 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Senior guards
Stephanie Sills (Clinton Township, Mich) and Tricia Everett
(Saginaw, Mich.) each contributed 10 points.
In the first half, SVSU hit just 26 percent from the floor on
8-of-31 shooting, and went into the locker room trailing 30-18, and
couldn’t catch up in the second stanza.
The Cardinals shot 40 percent in the second half and put 39 points
on the board, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Urbana in the
end.
The non-conference loss drops Saginaw Valley’s record to 1-9
overall, and they remain 0-5 in the GLIAC, while Urbana improves to
6-7 overall. The Cardinals will return to action on Jan. 3 as they
return to GLIAC action against Lake Superior State University at 1
