Lady Cardinals Fall To Hillsdale, 76-66

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team dropped a 76-66 decision to Hillsdale College on Saturday night (Dec. 5).  The loss puts SVSU's record at 2-4 overall on the season while Hillsdale improves to 2-4.

The Chargers would lead by as many as 18 points in the opening 20 minutes, but SVSU would cut that lead, and trail only 39-32 at the half.  In the second half, the Lady Cardinals would draw to within three points, at the 8:57 mark.  Hillsdale would extend that lead, though, and hold on for the 10-point victory.

Freshman Grace Herzog (Linden, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) led the Lady Cardinals, scoring eight points while grabbing 10 rebounds.  Herzog added five blocks on the defensive end.  Junior Brittany Burkhardt (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) led a balanced SVSU scoring attack, netting 13 points and adding five rebounds.  Junior Kelley Wesp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este HS) was the only other Cardinal to reach double-digits in scoring for the contest, contributing 10 points.  Freshman Aysha Boston (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance HS) had nine points, while junior Rhonda Gusa (Harbor Beach, Mich./Delta College) and freshman Jasmine Kennedy (Harper Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) each had eight points.  Kennedy added seven rebounds.

SVSU will return to the court on Saturday, Dec. 12, as they travel to play Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.  Game time is set for 1:00 pm in the Upper Peninsula.
