SVSU selected for NCAA DII National Tournament, will face Ferris State

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team earned a bid to the 2021 NCAA DII Women's Soccer National Tournament, which was announced on Monday evening.

The Cardinals were selected as an at-large bid and will be the No. 6 seed in the Midwest Region. The Cardinals will take on a familiar opponent in No. 3 Ferris State University. The Bulldogs eliminated the Cardinals from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, topping SVSI 1-0 in the semifinals on Friday. In a matchup earlier this season, the Cardinals played the then ninth-ranked Bulldogs to a scoreless draw on the road.

SVSU enters the NCAA Tournament with a record of 13-5-1. The tournament bid is the fourth in program history for SVSU (2009, 2014, 2018). The lone win for the Cardinals in the NCAA Tournament came in the opening round of the 2014 event.

The 2021 appearance will be the third for Head Coach Michael O'Neill with the Cardinals.

The Cardinals will take on the Bulldogs at 10 AM on Thursday at the host site Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.
