HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team picked up a road win Friday evening, defeating Michigan Tech 2–1 at Sherman Field.
The Cardinals (4-3-1, 2-2-0 GLIAC) jumped in front in the 14th minute as Brie Clasen (Naperville, Ill. / Neuqua Valley HS) scored her first career goal, finishing her own rebound to make it 1–0. Early in the second half, Clasen turned provider, setting up Lauryn Fracassi (Grandville, Mich. / Grandville HS) for her second goal of the season in the 49th minute.
Michigan Tech cut into the lead in the 81st minute when Reilly Lovercheck scored off a cross to make it 2–1, but SVSU's defense held firm the rest of the way. Goalkeeper Lainey Garbarz (Pinckney, Mich. / Father Gabriel Richard HS) made five saves to secure the victory.
The Cardinals outshot the Huskies 18–11, with nine shots on target compared to Tech's six. The Huskies led in corners 6-3 with three in each half. The match saw 19 total fouls and two yellow cards, including one to the Cardinals.
