UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University tennis team fell 8-1 to Wayne State today (Sept. 24) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) match.  

Freshman Hailey Crampton (Vernan, British Columbia/WL Seaton) led the way for the Cardinals, defeating McCall Monte 6-0 and 6-3 in no. 3 singles.  The duo of Yunjiao Shangguan (Chengdu, China/Shiyang HS) and Andrea Calhoun (Midland, Mich.) put up a good fight, however were unable to come up with a victory as they fell in no. 1 doubles, 8-5.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 1-3 overall on the season and 1-3 in the GLIAC while Wayne State moves to 4-2 overall on the season and 4-2 in the GLIAC.  The SVSU tennis team will return to action next Friday (Oct. 1) as travel to take on Lake Erie in a GLIAC match starting at 3:30 pm.
