MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team fell to Michigan Tech University today (Oct. 23) 5-3 in their second match of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) Tournament.
Freshman Hailey Crampton (Vernan, British Columbia/WL Seaton) was successful in no. 5 singles, falling in the first set 6-1, however came back and won back-to-back sets 6-2, 6-3 against Michigan Tech's Asel Otunchieva while freshman Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island/Colonel Gray Senior High) was victorious over Kira Eck 6-2, 7-6 (0-2) in no. 6 singles.
The no. 3 doubles team of senior Cortney Heileman (East China, Mich./St. Clair HS) and Wong defeated Michigan Tech's Anna Hegyi and Caitlin Hartley 8-5 for Saginaw Valley's third point of the match.
With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 4-9 overall on the season and 4-7 in GLIAC action while Michigan Tech moves to 7-6 overall on the season and 6-5 in conference play. The Saginaw Valley women's tennis team (#7 seed) will return to action tomorrow (Oct. 24) in their final match of the GLIAC Tournament as they take on Lake Superior State University (#8 seed) at 9:15 AM hosted at the Midland Community Tennis Center.
