Cardinals Fall to #15 Grand Valley, 7-2

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team fell in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference contest to #15 Grand Valley State University today (Sept. 13) by a score of 7-2.

The team of Yunjiao Shangguan (Chengdu, China/Shiyang HS) and Meghan Woody (Midland, Mich./Dow HS) would get the Cardinals off to good start with a 9-7 win at #1 doubles, but SVSU would be unable to capitalize in either of the other doubles matches falling 8-0 in both #2 and #3.

Shangguan would keep the momentum going from her double match as she claimed the Cardinals only other point on the afternoon at #1 singles, 6-1, 6-3 over Niki Shipman.  Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island/Colonel Gray Senior High) and Annessa Campian (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) would battle at #3 and #4 singles for the Cardinals before falling with identical scores of 6-2, 6-1 in their matches.

With the loss the Cardinals fall to 0-3 overall on the season and 0-3 in the GLIAC, while Grand Valley improves to 3-1 overall on the season and 3-1 in the GLIAC. SVSU will return to the court on September 23 when they travel to play Wayne State.
