Cardinals fall to Panthers, 6-3

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team fell in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference match today (September 30) to Ohio Dominican University by a score of 6-3 at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

Junior Yunjiao Shangguan (Chengdu, China/Shiyang HS) would get the Cardinals started off with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.  Freshman Meghan Woody (Midland, Mich./Dow HS) also notched a point for the Cardinals winning 6-0, 7-5 in her match at No. 2 single.  In No. 5 singles, Annessa Campian (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) would pull out a tight win 6-4,7-6 for the Cardinals earning their third and final point of the day.

The team of Annessa Campian (Tory, Mich./Troy HS) and Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island/Colonel Gray Senior High) would fight hard in No. 2 doubles, but would eventually fall short, 9-8.  The Cardinals would also be unable to pull out victories in their other two doubles matches.  The team of Shangguan and Woody would fall 9-8 in No. 1 doubles, while the team of Bobbi Enos (Almont, Mich./Almont HS) and Katie Piorkowski (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) would fall 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 1-5 overall on the season and 1-5 in GLIAC, while Ohio Dominican improves to 5-2 overall and 5-2 in GLIAC.  SVSU will return to action tomorrow (October 1), with a home match against Ashland University scheduled to start at 1 pm.
