Doud Wins At No. 3 Singles, Cards Fall To Wayne State

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team was defeated 8-1 by Wayne State University today (Oct. 5) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match.

The match was played at the Midland Community Tennis Center's indoor courts due to inclement weather in the area.

The Cardinals were unable to score in their doubles play, with the team of Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island/Colonel Gray Senior High) and Meghan Woody (Midland, Mich./Dow HS) fighting a hard No. 2 doubles match, but eventually falling short 8-4.

In singles play it was sophomore Erin Doud (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) who picked-up the lone point for Saginaw Valley in No. 3 singles, outscoring her opponent in a tough match 6-7, 6-4, 10-8.

Izabella Ismailova (Almaty, Kazkhstan/Military College of Sport) went into a tiebreaker in her No. 1 singles match, but lost the contest by a score of 5-7, 7-5, 10-4.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 2-8 overall and in the GLIAC while Wayne State improves to 9-1 overall and in the conference.

Saginaw Valley returns to action tomorrow (10/6) in a match against Hillsdale College at 10:00 am.  The match will once again be played at the Midland Tennis Center due to the possibility of bad weather tomorrow as well.  The match will be SVSU's "Senior Day" as well, as the team will pay tribute to its 2013 senior class.
