TIFFIN, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team fell in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest at Tiffin University by a score of 8-1 on Sunday (9/7).
For the second consecutive day, SVSU claimed the match at the #3 doubles position as the duo of senior Meghan Woody and freshman Lauren Sharp claimed victory by a score of 8-5. The other two doubles matches would not go the Cardinals' way, however, and the team headed into singles action trailing 2-1.
Singles play didn't fare any better for SV, as the Dragons claimed all five matches to close-out for the 8-1 win. Woody pushed her match to three sets against her opponent at #4 singles though, falling in a close match by a score of 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
"We lost to a very stong team in Tiffin," said SVSU Head Coach Jenn Boehm. "The team fought hard on every court and unfortunately came up short, but I am proud of how we competed. We know we are capable of better results and I can tell with this group we will get there."
Saginaw Valley falls to 0-2 on the season and 0-2 in GLIAC play. The Cardinals return to the court and open the home portion of their schedule Saturday (9/13) against Grand Valley State at 1:00 pm.
